I always liked the fact that Clefairy were essentially aliens. I like Pokemon whose species backstory is out of the norm or adds some mystique, like Porygon who were the first artificially-created Pokemon and can survive in outer space. It's something I wish they'd touch on a little bit more in the games.

Did you know that Ash's first Pokemon was originally going to be a Clefairy, but they changed it to a Pikachu at the last minute before production on the show started?

Yeah, they do look really similar. Jigglypuff looks like Clefairy's long-lost little sister or something. :3 They even have matching curls on their heads. XD

Yes, yes, indeed! Backstories make all characters more interesting. It would've been nice if they'd focused more on that than on coming up with unearthly powers to give the Pokémon. One thing that made me somewhat interested in the TV show was that it more often had backstories like that... although those still usually ran pretty predictable courses. :/

I like that Clefairy don't look stereotypically alien, too (as in, not like green-skinned fetuses or anything along those lines).

And I had no idea that Ash was originally going to have a Clefairy! Wow, that's neat. I wonder if Pikachu would have been less in the spotlight then, or would they have kept him as their general mascot?

Yeah, the show's backstories were often pretty interesting. (I haven't actually sat down and watched it since the Orange Islands, but my sister watches Cartoon Network so I occasionally get glimpses of the newer episodes, lol.)

I've often wondered the same thing about the mascot thing. Can you imagine Clefairy as Pokemon's mascot? o_0

Thank you. ^_^ I liked Clefairy a lot too, though this was at a time when anything cute and pink could win me over. =P
