Do you think we'll look back on this day? by aquanut Do you think we'll look back on this day? by aquanut

...in 20 years?

Can't believe it's been this long. Happy belated Pokemon Day! =) The original games were such a huge part of my childhood; I remember reading and treasuring all the Pokemon-related material I could find in my pre-internet days. I would obsessively collect the cards and stay late at bookstores/libraries reading all the Pokemon comics and books, just wanting to experience this amazing world over and over again... The repetitive storylines didn't bother me in the least ahaha.

As always, great lighting, and the pixelated quality and limited color palette are nice touches here. The starters are so cute, too, I love how you drew their eyes. They're not Pokémon-style really, but they're all different enough to fit and they make the faces very expressive and charming. :)

I like how the Pokemon look retro in this picture... and how the shading looks kinda pixel-like. :D

YES!!

I wasn't sure whether this counted as Pokespe or not since I used the Red design from the manga, but gave him all the starters like in the game... figured it was okay since manga!Red is supposed to be closer to game!Red anyway??

I wonder if we'll be able to do the same thing 20 years from today. Fortunate were we to have our childhood in a time in which Pokemon was introduced to the world.

Thank you so much for this comment Oni!! It makes me really happy you've said such kind things! =) I love that you described the looks on their faces as a mix of determination and joy; that makes me feel like I caught the kind of excitement and adventure of setting out in the earlier games! And thank you for noticing the reddish glow; I'm happy you think it looks like morning sun, as if it's the start of the day all bright and early!

Haha, that is an impressive collection!! I also have binders full of them, but only three 3" ones... the rest are scattered over various storage and deck boxes. I'm happy I still have them all; they were my most treasured possessions as a kid!

I've gotten to a point where I'm trying to sell them, but I'm having a hard time splitting them up...guess I'll continue to hold onto them until they're super valuable.  How far did you get series wise before you stopped?  I reached mid-Diamond and Pearl

I wonder if that'll happen in our lifetimes haha, one can hope... You got much farther than I did! I think I stopped around the release of EX Deoxys... I remember being frustrated with how Nintendo was releasing new expansions rapidly and it was too difficult and expensive to keep up, and at some point they changed Modified format to ban half the cards they'd just released from tournament play, basically forcing you to go buy all the new cards they were churning out. That's when I quit the TCG entirely haha. I'm still sad the game was taken away from WotC; that was when it began to go downhill...

Ah, Wizards...a good company that made some awesome product...may the glory days of Banjo and Nintendo rest in peace...

I keep wanting to buy an N64 JUST for Banjo Tooie, but that controller's joystick man...I just can't handle it...

I just couldn't fave this fast enough xD !  This is crazy adorable, and I love your style for everyone here!!  The Kanto starters look so endearing with big dark eyes like that, I love it. <3
The bright toned colors are so fun and eye-catching, and I especially like the big splotches of colors; they remind me vaguely of pixels and make this even more nostalgic.  Pokeball Revamp:heart: revamp

Thank you so much for this comment!! It makes me really happy that you're so enthusiastic about it!! :'DD I'm really happy the style makes them look adorable! Actually while I was doing this I had the sudden realization that although I've seen them so many times over the years, I haven't drawn the starters much since I was a kid and wasn't sure what look I wanted for them?! In the end I just went with what came naturally... I always pick Squirtle, but Bulbasaur is actually my favorite to draw! Its shapes are easier to exaggerate haha.

I'm really glad you like the coloring!! I wasn't sure whether I should have just colored it "normally" haha... My intent was to use a limited palette like the original games, but it ended up being only loosely based on that, so I'm glad people still seem to like the results! Also, I'm really happy you pointed out the splotches are like pixels because that's exactly what I meant them to be!! :'D A bit of a shoutout to how shading is dithered in pixel sprites!

Yes, the Kanto era is so nostalgic!! People can say what they like about the Gen I designs, but the time when it was just the original 151 will always be magic to me. =)

Thank you very much, you're very kind to stop by and say so! =) (By the way, thank you as well for the note you sent me on tumblr a long time ago, and sorry I haven't been answering. It's fine of course for you to follow or unfollow as you like, but thank you for your consideration in letting me know! I hope you've been doing well!)

Yes, I think it's cool that B/W brought up questions about the ethics of how trainers use Pokemon! Admittedly the way the main series Pokemon games have been incorporating plot feels a little weird to me, but it's nice to see them changing up the formula and expanding on the world a little.
